VSMMC sends off first patient to fully recover from COVID-19

CEBU CITY, April 28 (PIA) — A 67-year-old woman from Lapu-Lapu City is the first patient of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) to fully recover from COVID-19.

Elizabeth Taghoy was in tears during her send-off ceremony on April 24, 2020.

She was congratulated by the health workers and staff of VSMMC who met her with congratulatory banners and well-wishes as she was leaving the hospital.

She also thanked everyone who has given her support.

Taghoy was admitted on April 6, 2020, and had undergone treatment for 18 days before being discharged.

In a Facebook post on his official page, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan expressed how happy he is with Taghoy’s recovery.

“Isip inyung Mayor, emosyonal ang atong gibati karon tungod sa mga pasyente nga naka-fully recovered na sa CoVid-19, si Ma’am Elizabeth ang ika-3 sa atong syudad. Maayo na pod ang kondisyon sa 3 pa ka laing symptomatic nga padayon pa nga nagpa-ayo sa tambalanan (As your mayor, I am emotional because we have one patient who fully reocvered from COVID-19 who is the third patient from our city. The other patients who were symptomatic are also recovering in the hospital),” he said.

According to the same post, family members, city health officers, and other government employees welcomed her upon arrival in her home. — By Patty Candaza / pia.gov.ph
