PHL EMBASSY PARTICIPATES AT THE RECREATIONAL CYCLING GOLDEN JUBILEE

The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, led by Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre, joined the “Recreational Cycling Golden Jubilee” event graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, as part of the celebration for the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty The Sultan’s Accession to the Throne. The event was participated in by an estimated 1,000 cyclists which included members of the diplomatic corps.

The cyclists, together with His Majesty The Sultan, His Royal Highness The Crown Prince, and other members of the Royal Family, gathered at the Taman Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Square. His Majesty The Sultan led the cyclists in the 11.5km route which began at 7:30 a.m.

The Cycling event was held on a Car-Free Sunday being promoted jointly by the Ministries of Health and the Home Affairs. The program encourages Bruneians to engage in physical activities to foster a healthy lifestyle.

On a Car-Free Sunday, a number of roads in Bandar Seri Begawan are closed from 6:00am to 10:00am so the public can use them for recreation, cultural and community activities. END.
