PHL EMBASSY IN BRUNEI HONORS LATE SENATOR AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS UNDERSECRETARY LETICIA RAMOS-SHAHANI

The PHL Embassy in Brunei Darussalam joined other PHL Foreign Service Posts around the world in honoring the memory of the late Senator and Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Leticia Ramos-Shahani, who passed away on March 20, 2017 at the age of 87, by opening a Book of Condolences at the PHL Chancery on March 24, 2017.

Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Bandar Seri Begawan visited the PHL Embassy to sign the condolence book and pay their respects to the late Senator and Undersecretary. His Excellency Haji Mahadi bin Haji Maidin, Non-Resident Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, and Director of the Asia-Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), signed the condolence book, on behalf of the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam.

Daughter to former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Narciso Ramos and civic leader Angela Marcos Valdez, Senator Ramos-Shahani served as Senator during the Eight Congress (1987-1992), and was re-elected in the Ninth and the Tenth Congresses (1992-1998). Senator Ramos-Shahani also led a distinguished career in the PHL Foreign Service from 1974 to 1987, becoming Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs from 1986 to 1987.

Prior to her demise, Senator Ramos-Shahani was a Member of the Board of Directors of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO). She was also Vice-Chairperson and Member of the Philippine Navy Board of Advisers. END
