Philippine Embassy Supports Filipino Community Contingent to the 34th Brunei National Day Parade

The PHL contingent, representing the Filipino Community in Brunei Darussalam, marching past the Royal Dais

More than one hundred twenty (120) Filipinos, showcasing traditional Filipino clothing, and coming from various Filipino Community (FilCom) organizations in Brunei joined the contingent to the parade celebrating the 34th Brunei National Day held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saiffuddien on February 24, 2017.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and members of the Royal Family, graced the event which gathered more than 20,000 participants coming from the military and police establishments, government ministries, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, community associations, and expatriate groups, waving the national flag as they marched past the Royal Dais. This year’s celebration centered upon the importance of youth and their participation in formulating policies and strategies to achieve Brunei’s national vision 2035.

Vice Consul Jaybee B. Arguillas, and Defense Attaché Col. Jose Ricky A. Laniog represented the PHL Embassy in the row for the members of the diplomatic corps at the VIP area witnessing the parade.

The PHL Embassy closely coordinated with and extended full support to the FilCom for their participation in the occasion, particularly, during the group’s marching practices held at the Embassy grounds, in the preparation of their attires, and during the event itself, through the provision of food and refreshments to the participants. The PHL contingent was one of four large expatriate communities in Brunei Darussalam invited to join the
parade. The other expatriate communities who joined the parade were Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
