The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, in cooperation with the Brunei Filipino Educators Council (BFEC), an organization of Filipino teachers in Brunei, held its 15th Filipino Language and Cultural Enrichment Program (FLCEP) from 04 to 09 September 2017 at the Chancery.
The FLCEP is designed to provide young Filipino children, 5 to 17 years old, with the opportunity to further enhance their knowledge of the Filipino culture and language, and boost their sense of nationalism. During the six-day program, the children participated actively in their Filipino history and language lessons, and in cultural enrichment activities such as Filipino traditional games and performances.
During the closing ceremony on 09 September 2017, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Meynardo LB. Montealegre, emphasized the importance of the program in enabling the children to identify and be proud of their Filipino heritage. He also urged all the stakeholders to continue holding the program for the benefit of the children of the Overseas Filipinos in Brunei.
In recognition of the Philippines’ Chairmanship of ASEAN 2017, and in celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary, this year’s FLCEP integrated in its module some information about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). FLCEP also used instruction lessons and methods consistent with the Philippines’ K-12 basic education curriculum.
This year marks the 10th year of the FLCEP, which was introduced in 2008. Since then, parents have been looking forward to the conduct of the program as it has significantly benefited many Filipino children in Brunei, particularly in their reintegration into the PHL. END
