PH EMBASSY IN BRUNEI COMMEMORATES 122ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF DR. JOSE RIZAL
The Philippine Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan commemorated the 122nd Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Embassy grounds earlier today. Chargé d’ Affaires Pete Raymond V. Delfin, together with Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Colonel Jose Ricky A. Laniog, led the Flag Raising and Wreath Laying ceremonies.
A simple ceremony launching Project Saysay that feature portraits of great Filipino historical figures and new acquisitions for the Sentro Rizal Library immediately followed the wreath-laying rites.
In his message, Consul Delfin highlighted that this day of commemoration is a day of grateful remembrance of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom so that Filipinos all over the globe may emulate his traits and become willing heroes in their own way. He added that Rizal’s works remain relevant to this day, serving as an inspiration to further foster the Filipino’s love of country and fellowmen, and cooperation towards nation-building and development.
Project Saysay is a Manila-based and youth-led advocacy which aims to spread the ideals and values of great Filipino forebears by generating relevant, useful, and inspiring quotes and other information sourced from Philippine history. The portraits of the Filipino historical personalities were painted by Mark Villanueva.
Since its establishment in 2013, Project Saysay, in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), has distributed 4,363 posters to 2,237 classrooms, offices, and libraries across more than 171 institutions in the Philippines and abroad. The posters bear the words of wisdom of great Filipinos.
The new acquisitions for the Rizal Library include publications and materials that support Sentro Rizal Brunei’s programs and activities for the next three years which will focus on (1) teaching of Filipino Languages; (2) appreciating Philippine history and Filipino identity; and (3) promoting Philippine art and culture as a mechanism for the expansion of exports, tourism and foreign investments.
The event was capped by a fellowship breakfast shared by Filipino Community members in Brunei and Embassy personnel. END
