PH DELEGATION MEETS WITH OFFICIALS FROM BRUNEI’S AGRICULTURE AND AGRIFOOD DEPARTMENT

Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Pete Raymond V. Delfin of the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and members of the Philippine delegation to the 1st Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) for the Philippines-Brunei Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion met with Director Hajah Aidah binti Haji Mohd Hanifah, Senior Special Duty Officers, and Heads of Divisions of Brunei’s Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) on 11 August 2018. The DAA is under the auspices of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) of Brunei Darussalam.

The main items discussed during the Philippine delegation’s meeting with DAA officials include, among others, the Philippines’ participation in the Brunei Halal Showcase (BruHAS) 2018; convening of the 1st JCM to facilitate the implementation of the Philippines-Brunei MOU on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion; status and prospects of the fruits, vegetables, floriculture, poultry, and agrifood industries in Brunei; Halal certification process in Brunei; and initiatives in support of Halal export promotion and joint-venture investment projects in both Brunei and the Philippines, and in the BIMP-EAGA region.

The members of the Philippine delegation included Ms. Maria Cynthia B. Ricafort, Commercial Counsellor, Philippine Trade & Investment Centre-Singapore; Mr. Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Director, Department of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Jaybee B. Arguillas, Vice Consul, Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam; Dr. Norodin A. Kuit, National Coordinator, Department of Agriculture (DA); Mr. Jose J. Suan, Director, Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority (ZamboEcozone); Mr. Albino M. Ganchero, Head, Halal Section-Export Marketing Bureau, DTI; and Mr. Raison D. Arobinto, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist, Halal Section-Export Marketing Bureau, DTI.

Following the meeting at DAA, the Philippine delegation was given a tour of the Rimba Garden Central (RGC), a 4.8-hectare one-stop horticultural center in Bandar Seri Begawan featuring a wide range of plants and garden supplies. END
