Jim Paredes: Ted Failon a ‘spreader of fake news’
Former ABS-CBN news anchor Ted Failon is not exactly a role model of responsible journalism — in the eyes of musician Jim Paredes.
As friends and former associates paid tribute to Failon — who has moved to TV5 after ABS-CBN’s shutdown — Paredes countered that Failon is a “spreader of fake news.” He made his sentiments known in a reply to a Twitter post by Karen Davila extolling Failon’s virtues as a broadcast journalist.
Paredes’ comment on Davila’s tweet was followed by a netizen who asked Paredes to name one fake news that Failon spread while working at ABS-CBN.
“He sided with (Public Attorney’s Office chief) Persida Acosta on the issue of Dengvaxia,” Paredes said. “He did not speak out against the manufactured data on deaths her office was touting even when top doctors and experts were contradicting her. Because of that, he eroded the trust in vaccines and help spread polio, chickenpox, etc.”
Netizens were divided on the issue that Paredes raised. Some vouched for Failon’s credibility while others supported Paredes’ view.
In any case, the show goes on for Failon. Starting 21 September, he will be heard on TV5’s Radyo Singko 92.3 News FM.— Source:
