FILIPINO COMMUNITY MARCHES WITH PRIDE AT 36th BRUNEI NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
A contingent of almost two hundred members of the Filipino Community proudly wearing traditional Filipino costumes joined the grand parade graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and members of the Royal Family, for the 36th Brunei National Day held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saiffuddien in Bandar Seri Begawan on 23 February 2020.
In line with tradition, the parade ceremony started with His Majesty The Sultan inspecting the guard of honor parade comprising personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force. This was followed by a colorful march-past the VIP stage involving more than 26,000 participants from various sectors of the military and police establishments, government civil servants, education institutions, non-profit organizations, community associations, and expatriate groups.
The parade also featured a field performance by Brunei’s youths showcasing the efforts of every generation in supporting the needs of national development, upholding the independence, defending the sovereignty and realizing the National Vision 2035.
Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Col. Jose Ricky A. Laniog joined other members of the Diplomatic Corps seated at the VIP area were also on hand to witness the grand parade.
The Philippine Embassy Post spearheaded the preparations for, and organization of, the Filipino community’s participation for the celebrations, including regular marching rehearsals at the Embassy grounds to observe proper cadence and movements, the provision of costumes, and at the event itself through the provision of food and refreshments to the participants.
