Eastern Visayas Covid-19 cases climb to 3,249
TACLOBAN CITY – Confirmed coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Eastern Visayas have reached 3,249, with 90 new infections reported by authorities on Thursday night.
In a press statement, Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas regional head Minerva Molon said the new confirmed cases are part of the 920 swab results from the region’s two Covid-19 testing laboratories here.
The state-run Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center reported 84 new cases while the privately-managed Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released seven positive results, six of which are new cases and one is a retest of a patient.
Samar province has 39 new cases mostly close contacts of confirmed patients. These include 15 news cases in Calbayog City; seven in Tarangan town; six in Villareal; five in Basey; three in Catbalogan City; and one each in Paranas, Pagsanghan, and Sta. Rita towns.
In Leyte province, 20 more cases were reported, including 18 in Tacloban City and two in San Miguel towns. Most of them are close contacts of an infected person.
Health workers and returning residents are among the 24 new patients in Northern Samar. They are from the towns of Catarman, San Jose, Allen, Bobon, Gamay, Catubig, Lavezares, Mondragon, Pambujan, San Isidro, and San Roque towns.
One new case was added in San Juan, Southern Leyte.
Meanwhile, the DWHVL found six new confirmed cases – four in Palo, each in Tanauan and Barugo, all in Leyte province.
“With this current situation and local transmission of the virus, we remind the public to immediately self-isolate if experiencing flu-like symptoms and strictly practice the minimum health standards such as wearing of face masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene, among others,” Molon said.
As of Friday, the region has 2,055 Covid-19 recoveries, 1,168 active cases, and 25 deaths. — Source:/(PNA)
