A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) headed by Assistant Regional Director for Finance, Administrative Support and Technical Services and OneLab Project Leader Rosemarie S. Salazar, joined by Philippine Embassy Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Pete Raymond V. Delfin, met with Ministry of Health (MoH) officials led by Acting Director of Department of Scientific Services (DSS) Hajah Rahimah binti Haji Hanafi at MoH-DSS on 12 November 2018.

The DOST representatives were in Brunei for the One Stop Laboratory for Global Competitiveness or OneLab Roadshow and to promote their Halal Science and Technology (S&T) Program.

The OneLab Project is a network of laboratories anchored on an information technology (IT) platform which broadens public access to testing and calibration services at a single touch point. It envisions to be a globally-recognized network of analytical and calibration laboratories distinguished for quality, proficient services and ultimate customer convenience.

Following DOST’s presentation, MoH-DSS officials also provided a presentation on the history and the functions of DSS, particularly its Food Chemistry Section.

The delegation was toured in the laboratories of MoH-DSS following their meeting with Bruneian officials.

The members of the Philippine delegation included Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) Officer-in-Charge and OneLab Co-Project Leader Dr. Annabelle V. Briones; Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) Senior Science Research Specialist and OneLab Project Monitor Fatima Jhoan S. Ibarreta; PCIEERD Science Research Specialist II and OneLab Project Monitor Aleah P. Orendain; DOST Region IX Science Research Specialist II and OneLab IT Lead Aris D. Moratalla; and DOST Region XI Science Research Specialist II Alma R. Lamparas.

The delegation also visited the Philippine Embassy and called on CDA Delfin following their meeting at MoH-DSS. They expressed their sincere appreciation to the Embassy for making keen representations with MoH in support of the OneLab Project as well as the excellent reception accorded by the Embassy to them. CDA Delfin responded that OneLab is a laudable initiative which not only promotes the Philippines and Brunei’s collaboration in the field of science and health at the bilateral level but also fosters regional cooperation via networking of participating laboratories from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and other countries outside the region.

Following Brunei, the DOST delegation will proceed to Malaysia for the next leg of their Roadshow to meet with relevant Malaysian authorities in promotion of the OneLab Project. END
