Brunei PE First to Officially Transmit Election Returns to COMELEC

The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam was the first among Foreign Service Posts to successfully transmit 100% of its Election Returns to COMELEC during the early hours of Tuesday, 14 May 2019.

The Embassy closed the polls for the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) for the 2019 National Elections on 13 May 2019 at exactly 6:00 p.m., Philippine and Brunei time. Ms. Marilyn Ramos Rementilla, 50 years old, cast the last vote. Ms. Rementilla has been working in Brunei Darussalam as a seamstress for almost sixteen (16) years.

The Embassy reported that 4,034 Overseas Filipinos exercised their right to vote out of the 14,000 that were registered in Brunei for the 2019 Philippine National Elections.

The Special Board of Election Inspectors (SBEI) and the Special Ballot Reception and Custody Group (SBRCG) immediately started the closing procedures of the OAV process after the last vote had been cast. The consolidation, canvassing and transmission of the Election Returns were started by the Special Board of Canvassers (SBOC) by 10:15 p.m. of 13 May 2019. Post was able to transmit 100% of the Election Returns by 1:19 a.m. of the following day, 14 May 2019.
